Radioactive Drew
США
Добавлен 27 апр 2019
My name is Drew and I look for and explore radioactive items and places. Many people believe that the only radioactive places are in Chernobyl and Fukushima...the truth is our world is far more radioactive than many people realize. I make videos that show these places and items to better understand our radioactive world and to share that journey with others.

I drove over 1500 miles from Montana to Texas to view the total solar eclipse. This was an event that I had my doubts about capturing based on the decision of going to Texas to view it and the weather during the event. But it was an amazing journey and even though we didn't have perfectly clear skies for the eclipse...it was still amazing to see. Patreon Thanks: www.patreon.com/radioactivedrew ...

Excellent pictures of the old oil rigs. Finding higher levels of radiation in that area should be expected. Seems to go hand in hand with oil deposits.
My wife and I passed by when we were touring that area but it wasn't open to the public so the gate was as close as we got. Was interesting to be so close.
Yeah, it’s usually open twice a year.
I’m pretty sure your videos sell more radiacodes than any other advertisement they have out there, they should be sponsoring you!! I know I bought a 102 thanks to you. Love the vids!
That’s so awesome to hear. Glad you’re enjoying the 102.
Is it that the interior of the earth is made of molten elements that are either liquid because of nuclear reactions like fission of uranium, or is it due to gravitational force as the earth is in orbit around the sun and is also in orbit around the quasar in the center of the Milky Way ?.
It’s a combination of forces I believe. You have extreme pressures in the earth along with a lot of uranium and thorium. It could be fission causing that heat but if it was we would detect fission products in almost everything. Seems like it would be decay heat from those isotopes along with pressure, magnetic fields, gravitational forces.
I'm only a few minutes in so maybe this is answered in the video, but I have to ask why the reactor has been "in the process of decommissioning" for NINE years? What takes so long?
I believe it’s answered in the first video…basically it took the state of California 9 years to sign off on the plan.
every time it was time to change the XENON I would get the chief to do it he would do it with no face shield which is silly it 5 tons of CNT explosive equivalent
I use to do it with no protection. But since I was on a job documenting this process I needed to show safety first.
Awesome U.S product
16:14 Fukushima didn't have big containment domes like this because they were BWR, not PWR reactors. Duane Arnold 15 miles away from me was also a BWR so it just had big rectangle buildings on the site.
Those are both containment structures. They are designed differently…possibly for the different reactor types.
I wish I could have seen something like this at Trojan when I lived just outside Portland. I didn't get to see the implosion of the Trojan cooling tower though, which was very impressive from out viewpoint right at the 1/2-mile exclusion zone.
what a waste of gas and all that pollution generated by all those cars yuk !!!!!
What?
Graphite doesn’t reflect neutrons. It’s used as a moderator to slow fast neutrons. In a fast breeder reactor, they are probably control rods.
I wish Drew would specify that the contamination is in fact PERMANENT. The radon daughters simply decay into Pb-210, which a 22 year half-life. So the contamination is just spread out in time, but will undergo just as many decays as the Bi-214, etc. Furthermore, if you have a strong radon source, you probably will be completely incapable of washing the Pb-210 off. I've tried cleaning a canning jar lid, and it doesn't work well. Other decay products can be almost impossible to wash off your hands.
SAN ANOFRE
So san anofte being dismanteled and DRY STORED IN TANKS UNDERGROUND
This radioactive sand has nothing to do with San Onofre. Its naturally radioactive.
also there are natural oil seeps off the coast of Southern California.
That's true but I don't think this is where the source is.
So… curious, what would happen if you put some of those rocks in a back pack and walked through downtown New York City???
Good question. It might set off some alarms and get you a nice visit from DHS.
if you dont get those meters calibrated yearly they aren’t accurate
That’s not true. The Radeye B20 that I bought back in 2017 gives the same readings as a Radeye B20ER that I bought this year. So it depends on the type of detector you are using. The analog ones do need calibration. But it’s pretty easy to do yourself if you have a pulse generator you can hook it up to…if you are measuring CPM and not dose rates.
@@RadioactiveDrew ok i work in the nuclear industry and its regulation in canada and the usa that all detectors be calibrated yearly, its literally the law.
@guitarplayer5932 I understand those are the requirements for those facilities and it makes sense. As far as private ownership of these detectors, calibration isn’t much of an issue.
@@RadioactiveDrew lol ..ok you do you, i wont trust my safety to an uncalibrated meter thinking im safe
everything looks so old and run down. do we have plans on constructing or updating reactor sites? ive heard MANY are leaking damaged or otherwise need tlc
This site is in the process of being decommissioned. So it looks very rundown because it’s being torn down.
That’s old school compared to the ones at the plant I work at
How old is the plant you work at?
There need to be some controlled studies done on the radon gas therapy. Mostly, in the medical literature, radon is considered carcinogenic. But who knows, it may help people with pain. But it needs to be checked out thoroughly before a recommendation can be make. Would be great if it worked.
I think it’s more about the exposure level that makes it a carcinogen. At low levels it might have some benefits and at very high levels be a problem.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki are flourishing towns now
I know…I want to do some videos about both those cities.
They did the same thing to me💀
so in simple terms, if a prepper wanted a system to be able to detect and measure nuclear fallout from a weapon that hit land, one really doesnt want to be walking around in the environment itself taking measurements. they want to have a device that has a remote probe, that is at least a few inches detached from unit itself, so a person can be inside a safe bunker, while the probe is measuring the outside. is there such a geiger reader for fallout one can have the readout indoors, while the probe is outdoors? or a remote setup?
Probably came from Fukushima !
My name wyatt 🤨 🫵🏻
Do you happen to know what they did with the vehicles they used in Oppenheimer or if you can get a hold of anyone to see if they are actually for sale? It would be much appreciated. Thank you.!!!
I MAKE 76.09 PER HOUR. DOLLARS.
I got the radiacode 102 recently and it was worth every penny! I was able to find some uraninite a few days ago when I was in colorado that gave off 120,000 cpm! :D
That sounds very spicy.
@@RadioactiveDrew Yeah! Currently the hottest thing I own in less the size of a half dollar! Verry happy with them! :)
I am very happy with my 102. My request is that they write more apps for IOS.
They are constantly working on the iOS version.
@@RadioactiveDrew Hey! That’s great news. Thanks.
Love these man you teach so much
Thanks…glad you enjoy them.
Apparently I've been offered a 103 by radiacode by way of sponsorship - I'm going to be linking this video as some of my source information, after being roasted in previous videos with some misunderstanding about their operation.
Just checked out that exact location in Pasadena to experience the "hot" fun with my 600+.🔥
There are also some great antique shops right next to that spot, with some spicy items.
I was a shop expediter for Bechtel in Houston during the mid 70’s and had the pleasure to monitor the manufacturing progress (or lack of) for the Main Steam Isolation Valves. I remember the seismic test and the valve closing instantly but the gate was so heavy it bent the operator piston shaft and the valve couldn’t be reopened. So it was back to the engineers.
Thats messed up that they did this in New Mexico. My beautiful state with beautiful people... That got contaminated...
It’s not as big of a deal as some people make it out to be.
@@RadioactiveDrew Hispanic families got affected but mainstream media didn't let it out and there wasn't Internet at the time. It's people like and the US Government who said "Who cares? They're just a bunch of Mexicans." I have family in Los Alamos so I know. Even their grandchildren, my cousins have signs of radiation. Don't forget. We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us.
And we're ain't going nowhere. Just multiplying.
Ive been trying to find what model of counter generates the classic clicking sound you hear in the Chernobyl HBO series and across pop culture. Do you have any idea?
ruclips.net/video/WahfwuW76o0/видео.htmlsi=D7r1RQuxGIDeudHB This one
In the area a bit west of Wausau Wisconsin there was an old thorium mine… I’d love to explore it someday if I got property owners permission ofc. Also worth checking out is a now state park area on west end of Rib mountain that used to be mined by 3M for the rocks on roofing shingles. I’m willing to bet in that granite and surrounding soil is thorium. I don’t have a reliable way to detect it. Been using a app that uses the selfie camera as a gamma detector. Of course you must completely block/cover the camera with completely opaque black tape, then it calibrates for 10 minutes or so, and then you can use it. It DOES pick up americum from a smoke detector pellet.
Wasn’t aware uranium was used in color I collect uranium and vaseline glass never heard of these thanks for the info
No problem.
That's going to be an interesting return: D- You sold me fake tiles Seller- How do you know that? D- They ain't radioactive.
I ended up keeping them. I did inform the seller about what I found.
My family used to own the mortuary in moab. And we have fished a lot of dumbasses out of old minds that died down in there because of poisoned air. We'll be seeing you soon.
I don’t think so. I have an air monitor now.
The ruts reminds me of wagon ruts, like in the ancient Roman roads in Italy
How to never deal with mold on your lens again! (I absolutely love your content btw)
Appreciate the transparency, fella. Subbed.
Thanks for the sub.
12:00 what settings did you use to film that timelapse astrophotography because I have a sony zv-1 and I want to test it out too.
I usually shoot around 10-15sec exposures with a wide 2.8 lens. ISO might have been around 3200.
@@RadioactiveDrew is it interval shooting function that my camera says
@shelly8873 that’s what I’ve been using for a while now. I use to control the camera with a wired external remote timer. But the internal ones work okay for simple static shots.
in reference to the end of the video its a product you like and stand by so having them sponsor you is great
Easily one of the best sponsors I've had.
5:20 11 uSv is about the 1/3 the amount of radiation most people are naturally exposed to over the course of 1 year. If he spent 12 hours with this source in this position, he would double the amount of radiation a normal person gets in 1 year.
10uSv is standard daily exposition and 1mSv is like a year dose so he didn't get too much
35 cpm in your house, buddy! LOL
I can go outside and its about the same. There is constant background radiation coming from space and from the ground all over the planet.
@@RadioactiveDrew maybe it's just my cheap unit, but it usually hovers around 10-20 μSv.. occasionally hitting the 30's. One thing I don't get is where's the common ground between different counter models with different sized tubes? The larger one would show a greater number of counts, I assume. So how can they agree on counts and dosage of a given specimen?
@DennisSantos that’s kind of high for a unit to be displaying for background. Usually most detectors are calibrated for the dose rate to be what global background averages out to be, which is around .08-0.2uSv/hr. Counts per minute will totally be dependent on the detector type and size.
Like when you say it cool even with all the people around. Camera scans around shows four cars one person miles away and a vast dune landscape for as far as one can see. Definitely not the beach in Florida.
I've driven passed this place. 😀
i have found 50 cal rounds out near here while metal detecting... I remember digging one up from about 10 inches deep and finding green corrosive goo coming out of the tip... so i put it down pretty fast lol
That goo might have been some type of old explosive.
How are you detecting Thorium when the Radiacode is a gamma-only detector? Thorium is alpha decay.
It’s true that thorium 232 decays by alpha particles. But it has a bunch of isotopes that come after that decay that emit beta and gamma radiation. So that’s why the Radiacode can see it.
